Functional appliances

Functional appliances are used to modify the way jaws grow, as well as moving teeth. They do this by changing the posture of the jaw to stretch the jaw muscles and joints.

Due to their mode of action, functional appliances are much less effective once growth has finished and are therefore usually reserved for patients under the age of 14.

Functional appliances may be used for NHS or Private treatment.
