Specialist register The General Dental Council has set up lists of registered dentists who meet certain conditions and have been given the right to use a specialist title. Registered specialists in Orthodontics are qualified dentists who have undertaken significant additional training and gained additional qualification in Orthodontics as a separate and specialist discipline within dentistry. The Specialist Register is designed to protect patients by reassuring them that someone who appears on this list is suitably qualified to carry out the treatment. Not all dentists who undertake orthodontic treatment are registered specialists and therefore their skills and experience is not considered to be of the same standard as those of a registered specialist. At Bristol Orthodontics, all our Orthodontists have already achieved specialist registration. Sometimes we may be working with a qualified dentist who is undertaking the necessary training at our Centres, and these dentists work as Orthodontic Assistants, under the direct supervision of one of our Specialist Orthodontists. General Dental Qualifications include BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery - the first or general dental qualification) Qualifications leading to acceptance on the Specialist Register FDSRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) MSc (Masters Degree in Orthodontics) MOrthRCS (Membership in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons DOrthRCS (Diploma in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons) For more information, click on www.gdc-uk.org |
